I’m thinking of making a Tiefling Bard/Rogue subclassing into College of Valor and maybe Arcane Trickster(this is Int casting right?) if I roll well enough(we use 4d6 and drop the lowest) or if I don’t have the stats for a Cha/Int/Dex/Con heavy character maybe just assassin or thief. My Valor Bard's primary instruments are his voice and percussion instruments, specifically the bodhran and rhythm bones. As such, I feel that it's not far fetched that he can use the various parts of his rapier; the bow, the basket, the pommel, the quillions, the forte to bang out a complex rhythm on his shield, thus serving as a musical instrument. The bard 5e is a common playable personality course in countless versions of the Dungeons & Dragons serpents dream pretending game.

The class itself is power and gives way for plenty of customization, but the college you choose can add important depth. These bard colleges are not created equally, though. If you want to be good with melee weapon attacks, you should go with Valor, unless you can get Extra Attack from 5 levels of Fighter, Monk, Paladin, Ranger or Bladelock. You said multiclassing might be impossible, so Valor is basically the only option for a fencer. If you are fine with using spells instead of weapons, a Lore Bard might be viable. The valor bard inspiration is limited to others and adds more to what otgers can do with that inspiration.
